June was a month that brought our community together in meaningful and memorable ways. Officers were proud to honor a dedicated crossing guard at Momot Elementary after nearly a decade of service keeping children safe. The department hosted a Community E-Mobility Forum at the Durkee Street Pavilion, engaging residents on safe bike and e-bike use throughout the city. We also had the privilege of attending the 2026 Honor Flight Ceremony at the US Oval Memorial Field — an event we have not missed in over five years. And as the month came to a close, Plattsburgh showed its very best during the Fourth of July celebration, where thousands came together with respect and community pride.
Summer in Plattsburgh means more time outdoors — and with that comes increased risk around water and heat. Never swim alone, and always supervise children closely near pools, Lake Champlain, or any open water. Designate a water watcher and avoid distractions like phones when children are in or near the water. On hot days, check on elderly neighbors and never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle — temperatures inside a car can reach dangerous levels within minutes. Stay hydrated, know the signs of heat exhaustion, and call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of heat stroke. Have a safe and enjoyable summer, Plattsburgh.
