Pictured above is the display on City Hall's 3rd floor adjacent to the Battle of Plattsburgh Interpretive Center, which includes the Mayor's Proclamation adopting the officers and crew of the vessels USS Henley and the USS Henley DD762 Association (full text below), officer's swords presented to the City by Captains Daniel M. Karcher and Allen E White (USN Ret), the ship's battle pennant, the Henley Medalion, and various ship awards.
WHEREAS Captain Robert Henley, Captain of the vessel Eagle, and his crew, served with distinction in the Battle of Plattsburgh under the command of Master Commandant Thomas Macdonough on September 11, 1814, the date of our nation's most important battle of the War of 1812; and
WHEREAS the United States Government has seen fit to recognize and honor the valor and spirit symbolized by the Henley name through the commission of the vessels USS Henley DD-39 (6 December 1912), USS Henley DD-391 (14 August 1937), and USS Henley DD-762 (8 October 1946); and
WHEREAS the officers and crews of the vessels USS Henley have served with distinction in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Cuban Missile crisis; and
WHEREAS the USS Henley DD-762 Association has sought a home fitting for the memory of the vessels Henley and a testament to the honor, valor, and spirit of their officers and crew;
