Summer fishing in Plattsburgh’s Saranac River provides great opportunities to catch perch, bass, brown trout (with some lunkers running up from the lake) rainbow trout and the occasional holdover Atlantic salmon. Favorite spots include the mouth below the footbridge and the pools on either side by the old bridge near the Pine Street Police Station. Dedicated anglers can start at the old Imperial Mill Dam off Adirondack Lane and work their way down stream for an entire day’s worth of fun. Fly casters favorites include the Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear nymph in a size 12 or 14, and Cabbage Moth imitations the same sizes. Best times are evenings, just prior to dusk.
