New Events for the 2017 Battle of Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The City of Plattsburgh will host the 2017 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration over four days from Thursday, September 7 through Sunday, September 10.  We are excited to introduce the Parade theme, new events for Saturday night and a super-sized Battle of Plattsburgh Field Day on Sunday, 9/10.

The Battle of Plattsburgh Parade Committee, led by Vicki Giroux, has announced this year’s parade theme as “The Adirondack Coast: Crossroads of Cultural Heritage”.  To register for this lively and musical parade, please go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DMWPQLN .  The parade is on Saturday, September 9 at 1p.m.   This year we honor Stan and Chris Ransom as the BOP Parade Marshalls! Stan and Chris have been instrumental in providing 1800’s-themed kids games for several years and will be featured in the official Battle of Plattsburgh magazine.

Following this year’s parade will be the popular Beat Retreat, a compilation of all musical marching groups in front of City Hall.  Stick around for a performance from local favorite, The Wagar Brothers, and a rousing performance from LUCID! For those who don’t know, Lucid is an all original band who shifts from rock and roll to hip-hop, blues, reggae and country. Don’t miss this performance to be held on City Hall Steps! This will lead into the new reenactment, McGlassin’s Raid. This nighttime tactical demonstration between British and American Troops, to be held at the Macdonough Monument, depicts the crossing of the Saranac River and routing by Captain George McGlassin and 50 American volunteers of a British artillery battery.

In partnership with Kinetic Running, the City will host the Rooster Relay on Sunday from 7a.m.-10a.m. A new & fun race for this year’s Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration. Teams of 2-6 runners will run approximately 1.20 mile route beginning and ending at the base of the Macdonough Monument.  Teams participating will try to get as many of the course ‘loops’ completed between 7a.m.-10a.m. For more information email kineticrunningllc@gmail.com or to register, go to www.plattsburghrecreation.com. Free raffles! Fee is $50/team. Day of race registration is $60 team.

Finally, all businesses, organizations or clubs are invited to join us for a super-sized Field Day on Sunday, 9/10/17 on the US Oval. The BOP Field Day will include food, music, games and more. Included in the day’s line-up are performances by Ausable Branch, Annie on the Water, Champlain Valley Irish Dancers, The Connecticut Peddler, free horse drawn carriage rides from Country Dream Farms, the ever-popular Kids Games and much, much more!
