Mayor Read is recruiting city residents who are interested in serving on the Board of Assessment Review, the Library Board of Trustees, the Planning Board, the Zoning Board, and in other ways.
Mayor Read said, “This is our city. It benefits from the most diversity in experiences, ideas, and approaches that we can bring to bear on our institutions. Volunteering to serve on one of the various boards is a way to do that.”
The city has outlined below some desired skills. However, anyone interested in serving would be welcome to submit a letter of interest.
The Board of Assessment Review does not have any immediate openings but would seek individuals that have knowledge of property valuation in the City of Plattsburgh.
The Library Board of Trustees is searching for someone to serve on their Finance committee with experience in budgets and spreadsheets.
We’d appreciate those with skills in comprehensive land use planning, subdivision, site review, historic preservation principles, and zoning, and who are comfortable in public meetings to serve on our Planning Board.
Zoning Board applicants should have a good knowledge of building construction, site development and business planning, as well as a general knowledge of zoning and planning.
Please submit a letter of interest and/or resume by Friday, January 27, 2017 to the Mayor’s Office, 41 City Hall Place, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. The letter should state the reasons you would like to serve on the Board and any background information that would assist us in considering your application.
Others who would like to get involved in new ways, from budget oversight to strategic planning, a new Comprehensive Land Use Planning Task Force, public safety, and utilities and public works are also encouraged to provide the city with letters of interest at their convenience.
